Purpose of the Tribes Environmental Protection Office

The NORTHWESTERN BAND OF SHOSHONE NATION’s newly established Tribal Environmental Protection Office (TEPO) was developed to accomplish the statutory and regulatory purposes for the General Assistance Program. The GAP will assist the Tribe in planning, developing and establishing the capability to implement environmental protection programs administered by the Environmental Protection Agency. In addition, the Tribe plans to collaborate with the other tribes of Utah (and Region 8 Tribes) as well as the State of Utah, Department of Environmental Quality in developing its Comprehensive Environmental Protection program.
The Tribe plans to develop and adopt a Comprehensive Environmental Protection Policy/Plan prior to any future development on the current and any future land acquisitions. The need to protect its entire environment for present and future generations is of the highest importance for the Tribe, including, the economic and community development plans of the Tribe.
