Obejectives for the Tribes General Assistance Program

 
 
1. To assure a quality environment for the Northwestern Band of Shoshone Nation.
2. Establish a Northwestern Band of Shoshone Nation Tribal Environmental Protection Office (TEPO).
3. Establish and implement an EPA regulatory program on the Northwestern Band of Shoshone Nation Reservation and any additional land-base that may be acquired.
4. Increase the Tribe’s capacity to enforce and assure compliance to the EPA or adopted tribal environmental policies and procedures on their reservation (and additional other land-base).
5. Increase reservation community awareness of environmental issues by identifying, assessing and coordinating public education and outreach to promote awareness and environmental education.
6. Adopt a tribal Comprehensive Environmental Protection Policy/Plan that would incorporate the numerous EPA statutes and laws.
7. Develop and adopt a tribal environmental review process (TERP) by adopting a Model Environmental Review Code (MERC) and land use regulations.
8. Improve the Tribe’s management capabilities for its environment and human health resources through the development of appropriate tribal environmental protection policies and codes.
9. Develop a tribal environmental agreement (with the EPA) TEA to use as a guide and plan to develop environmental programs and enforcement capabilities.
